Description

The 40th anniversary tribute to Morgan Fisher’s 1980 masterpiece and much loved cult classic “Miniatures”. We have attempted to capture the spirit of the original, following Morgan's template, inviting a number of contributors  who were part of the original release and the excellent “Miniatures 2” sequel from the turn of the Millennium.

... and now we have this third, even more expanded homage. The idea is simplicity itself: invite a selected body of artists to make a piece one minute long and then group them together in through-listening blocks.

​There are 124 contributors here, some well-thumbed including The Residents, Fred Frith, Stewart Lee, Billy Bragg, David Thomas, John Otway, R Stevie Moore, Peter Blegvad, Eyeless In Gaza, The Bevis Frond, Gary Clail, Adrian Sherwood, Henry Kaiser, Census Of Hallucinations, Atilla the Stockbroker, Terry Riley, Half Japanese, Matmos, Apartment House, Tom Robinson, Bob Drake, Alternative TV, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Two Headed Emperor, Bringers Of Change, Boo Hewerdine etc.,

along with many others lesser known or as well known but in other musical circles - including members of  Van der Graaf Generator, Curved Air, Zoviet France, Stomu Yamashta’s Red Buddha Theatre, Soft Machine, Fairport Convention, The Blockheads,The Stranglers, Clear Blue Sky, Young Marble Giants, The Boys, Pere Ubu, John’s Children, Henry Cow, PiL, Alternative TV, Caravan, The Damned, The Flying Lizards, Global Village Trucking Company, King Crimson, Adam and the Ants, Stiff Little Fingers, and The Monochrome Set.

Including understated artists that have recorded with Frank Zappa, Björk, Michael Jackson, Grace Jones, Nile Rogers, Peter Gabriel, Flying Lotus, Peter Hammill, David Gilmour, Thomas Dolby, Paul McCartney, Andy Partridge, Nick Cave, Lizzie Ball and countless others.

It’s a snapshot, a sampler, a box of variety and delights - and a window on the state of play: in all, a useful and worthwhile undertaking. 2 CDs in a slipcase with a thick book.
